| New book about A-ha, shows different sides to the trio. In over a year, journalist and writer Jan Omdahl, has followed Morten Mags and Pål closely. In the autum this year, the book will be ready. 20 years after their hit "Take On Me". - It will be no bio exactly, but a close, intimate and critical portrait, says Omdahl. He has followed the band on several tours lately, both in Germany, Austria and Russia. In adittion he has also interviewed the guys seperate. - Among other things, I have met Pål together with Lauren in New York, Morten at his cabin ( hytte ) in the south of Norway and Mags and his ateliere. I have also been able to look into the boys private photo archive. However, Omdahl promises no sensational reveals. - There will not be much sex, drugs and rock and roll. Jan Omdahl has followed A-ha since the 80's as a journalist for BEAT and Arbeiderbladet. He now is a freelance journalist. And once again he has set his eyes on the band. However he does not call himself a fan. His favourite record of theirs, is Scoundrel Days. A-ha has sold 25 million records and is in Norwegian scale, in a division for themselves. Jan Omdahl has gotten a good insight in the bands inner life. - They talk honestly about the band, the career and the conflicts. There has been a lot of friction between them. But then again, it's the conflicts that keeps the band creativly alive. The band also talks about their strained relationship with the media. Omdahl says that being A-ha, is a well paid job, but that that is not the driving force for the band. - They tell about what they have managed and what they haven't managed. The boys haven't made as good record as they think they could. - What facinates you the most about A-ha ? - Two things: The boys did something un Norwegian, to lift the law of gravity. The other is the chemistry between them. A-ha is like and old rusty car, that just goes on and on, says the writer. LETS HOPE THE BOOK WILL BE RELEASED IN ENGLISH TOO................ The title of Jan Omdahl`s new coffee-table book about a-ha is "The Swing of Things: 20 år med a-ha", and it will be published by Håkon Harket`s publishing company Press in fall 2004. The price will be 399 kroner. www.dagbladet.no/kultur/2004/06/14/400456.html |
